Designed Happy - Studio DH After-School Architecture
Studio DH is an after-school program modeled after collegiate architecture, yet geared toward kids in grades 3-7. The course was created by TJ Monahan, AIA and Founder and Managing Director of Designed Happy, a full-service residential architecture, design and decor firm in Kensington, MD.
During the Studio DH course, kids will learn the best parts of architecture, including iterative process, problem solving, design thinking and public speaking. Each week, students will apply specific aspects of design or architecture to a semester’s-long project.
Studio DH is split into two semesters, with the upcoming Spring semester course beginning March 7, 2024, and running every Thursday for eight weeks, from 5-6:00 p.m. at the Designed Happy studio (no class on Thursday, March 28th for MCPS Spring Break).
TJ Monahan is both an alumni of, and former teacher of architecture at Catholic University of America, and has been working in the industry as an architect/remodeler since 2001. In 2014, he started a blog named Designed Happy, with the goal of educating homeowners on the overall design/build process. With a strong following, the blog turned into a book in 2020, and in the Fall of 2023, Monahan officially opened the Designed Happy firm.
