After School History Explorers Program

Join a weekly after school enrichment history club. Become an explorer and uncover stories that happened in Loudoun and the Virginia Piedmont all while having fun.

Join Claude Moore Park, the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum, and the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area Association for a weekly after school enrichment club. Become an explorer and uncover stories that happened in Loudoun and the Virginia Piedmont all while having fun.  Activities will take place both inside and outside weather permitting.  Geared towards 4th-5th grade level.

Weekly themes map back to the Virginia Standards of Learning.  Registering for the entire session includes admission to our Historic Encounters Day with free passes for a family of four.

  • Week 1 (3/1):  Mapping - become a surveyor for the day and explore the park and develop your own map.
  • Week 2 (3/8):  Native Americans - Get out your magnifying glass and look for clues as to how Native Americans lived off the land.
  • Week 3 (3/15):  Global Wars - Become a Revolutionary War spy and try your hand at cyphers.  Discover what you would plant in a Victory Garden on the Homefront.
  • Week 4 (3/29):  Industrialization/Invention/Innovation - Visit our Blacksmith Shop for a demonstration.  Investigate the difference between horse power to kid power with rural electrification.
  • Week 5 (4/5):  Special Historic Encounters Day Event:  Everyday life in the 18th Century
  • Week 6 (4/12):  Farm to Table - Become a beekeeper for the day and visit the apiaries at Claude Moore Park
  • Week 7 (4/19):  Special Historic Encounters Day Event:  Revolutionary War
  • Week 8 (4/19):  Black History:  Investigage the history of enslavement, Reconstruction, and Civil Rights in Loudoun County.  Visit our one-room schoolhouse and examine the history of segregated schools.
  • Week 9 (4/26): Leadership:  Explore local leaders and discover what it means to be a leader.
