Learning to Swim Can't Wait!

When you think of formal swimming lessons, do you consider them an extracurricular activity? If so, you're not alone. For over 17 years, SafeSplash Swim School has been doing their part by educating the community about the importance of learning to swim. SafeSplash strives to give infants, toddlers, and adults the opportunity to learn this lifesaving skill in a fun, effective environment. Making their debut in the DMV area, SafeSplash Jessup (Columbia), SafeSplash Sterling, SafeSplash Laurel and (coming soon!) SafeSplash Chantilly are equipped to take your swimming abilities to the next level.

While each location is all about making learning to swim fun, they know developing swim skills is not an "extra" but a serious necessity. Unfortunately, drowning is the leading cause of injury death in the U.S. for children 1 through 4 years of age. And, for every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries. Swim lessons aren't just a hobby: it is one of the few activities that could save your child's life.

Now more than ever, learning to swim is critical. With a massive shortage of lifeguards throughout the country, every unsupervised open body of water is at a higher risk for aquatic emergencies. Equip your family with the skills they need should a water incident occur.

SafeSplash offers swimming programs for infants as young as 6 months old. While parents may be hesitant to enroll their child at such a young age, there are many benefits to early swimming instruction and baby aquatics. For starters, swimming lessons can reduce the risk of accidental childhood drowning by 88%. In addition, kids who get their feet wet early in life tend to have less fear and apprehension around water.

Beyond learning to swim, there are many other precautions you can take to be safer both in and around the water. We’ve made them easy to remember with our SPLASH acronym:

S = SWIM LESSONS (be sure to learn the life-saving skill of swimming)

P = PUT AWAY TOYS, PUT UP LADDER (empty small pools and cover hot tubs)

L = LIFE JACKETS (on a boat, canoe, kayak, paddle board)

A = ADULT ALWAYS WATCHING (establish an adult water watcher)

S = SHUT ALL GATES (self-closing and self-latching gates)

H = HOW TO RESCUE (Throw, don’t go! Know CPR and rescue skills)

Curriculum

Every swimmer who enters the doors of a SafeSplash Swim School is taught using a proprietary, progressive, and proven curriculum developed by a team of champion swimmers with over 30 years of experience. From the start, each swimmer is taught from experienced, highly-skilled instructors who set the foundation of swim skill development. Whether a student is just starting out or ready to move to more advanced strokes, SafeSplash can take you from bubbles to butterfly®.

Swim Lessons

Each SafeSplash location offers a variety of class types from small group classes featuring a 4:1 student to teacher ratio to semi-private and private lessons.  Right from the beginning, every SafeSplash student learns the basics of water safety and the correct way to swim. They believe swimmers need to develop swim skills that not only allow them to float, but also to move themselves to safety as confident, efficient swimmers. Having a correct, efficient swim stroke enables swimmers to move themselves out of potentially dangerous situations. As their skills increase, they’ll become more and more confident… both in the pool and in everyday life!
