All summer camps (as described below) will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is open to the public.

Before-Care is available from 8 to 8:45 a.m. and After-Care is available from 3 to 5 p.m. for additional costs.

Adventure Art Camp

Age/Grade: Rising 4th through 5th grades

What goes more hand in hand than Adventures and Art? Each day begins with going on an excursion and ends with painting, drawing, and creating. The possibilities are endless!


Adventure Camp

Age/Grade: Rising 2nd through 3rd grades

Can’t choose one particular activity? You don’t have to with this option. Children will have a variety of activities in the camp to keep them excited and involved. There will be fun science activities, art, music, creek exploring, and lots of games and free play.

 

Appalachian Trail Hiking Camp

Session: 6/24/2019–6/28/2019

Cost: $750/week

Age/Grade: Rising 7th through 11th grades

Come and enjoy the beauty of the Appalachian Trail in Cumberland Valley, PA as part of a camp led by our own Outdoor Education teacher, Geoff Baker! This backpacking trip will cover approximately six to 10 miles per day starting in Boiling Springs, PA, and finishing around Caledonia, PA near Route 30. Total ascent is 5,980 feet and total descent is 5,500 feet — that is nearly 500 feet in total ascension! We will be staying at shelters on the trail, hiking sections 11, 12, and 13 of the Cumberland Valley portion of the A.T.  Students will also go to the Appalachian Trail Museum, which is the only museum in the country dedicated to hiking. The museum portrays and preserves the history and the physical, emotional, and spiritual human experiences of the A.T.

 

Archery Camp

Session: 6/17/2019–6/21/2019

Cost: $395/week

Age/Grade: Rising 4th through 8th grades

During this camp, children will make by hand a wooden bow from hickory wood, wooden arrows with real turkey feathers, and a leather quiver. They will also learn to shoot their bows using the instinctive archery or traditional archery methods.

About Peter Yencken: Peter has been making bows for more than 25 years. He started making bows while working at Tom Brown Jr’s Tracker School. He is a guest teacher to many wilderness schools here in the U.S. and in Australia. Peter has taught the art of making bows to well over 1,500 people ages six to 89.


Baseball Camp

Waldorf Baseball camp has long been a summer favorite!  Hit in the batting cage, learn fielding fundamentals, and practice sliding.  This will be a fun filled time with unique and creative drills and lots of time playing ball on the baseball diamond.


Beautiful Local Bike Camp

Cost: $395/week

Age/Grade: Rising 6th through 12th grades

Students will explore the local bikeways of the Washington, DC area. Our Outdoor Education teacher, Geoff Baker, will help you explore Rock Creek Park, the National Mall and Tidal Basin, Arlington National Cemetery (and see the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier), Roosevelt Island, and along the Potomac River towards Mount Vernon. Students will look at the map to figure out distances and other sights along the way, including the best ice cream parlor available on that particular route! Come see DC on your very own spokes.

Note: Bicycles and helmets will not be provided but are required.

 

Children’s Garden Camp

  • Weeks 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8: $395/week
  • Week 3: $300/week (reduced because there is no camp 7/4 & 7/5)

Age/Grade: Three to six years of age.

This camp is an annual favorite and fills up fast! It is designed to provide young campers with fulfilling imaginative playtime. Led by our own WWS teachers, this camp creates a healthy, safe environment where young children develop and thrive by being encouraged to run, dig, explore, garden, and build. 

Note: Children must be potty trained.

 

Circus Camp

Age/Grade: Rising 3rd through 7th grades

Join one of our most beloved games teachers, Mr. Gardiner, for challenging and fun circus activities.  Campers can learn to juggle, stilt walk, and unicycle.  They will have a chance to walk on a tight wire, practice rings and aerial silks.  Everyone can tumble, do acrobatics, and play balancing games and be in a show at the end of the week.  Campers who just want to try new things without participating in the show will also have that opportunity.

 

Games and Cooking Camp

NEW THIS YEAR! Chef Eron loves to cook, but he also enjoys playing too, so why not do both? Play chess, ping pong, or golf (just to name a few) in the morning and learn some of the many aspects of cooking in the afternoon. Learning about sautéing and how to “checkmate” all in the same day couldn’t be more fun, so sign up for this diverse camp fast because you can only have so many cooks in the kitchen and so many holes-in-one!


Music, Stories, and Play Camp

Age/Grade: Rising 2nd through 4th grades

Sing, dance, play, explore, and act out wonderful stories! Carol Baker, long-time music teacher and Waldorf mom, will guide children through a playful process of discovery, using a developmentally appropriate repertoire, in which they breathe life, movement, and music into various folktales from diverse cultures. 

 

Theater Camp

Age/Grade: Rising 5th through 12th grades

All the world's a stage! Campers will explore improv (theater games and improvisational work), voice and speech (technique exercises and handling of written text), Shakespeare (text analysis, in-depth study of specific plays, and scene and monologue work), the Meisner technique (contemporary scene work and monologues), and acting for the camera (on camera scene work and film acting technique).

Rising 9th through 11th grades for week 5

Discover your acting skills while having fun! All students can learn acting for the stage through theater exercises, games, improvisation, scene study and performance. Theater exercises include: non-verbal sensory-awareness, movement and mime, and ensemble improvisation. Acting exercises include: character and script analysis, vocal technique, monologues, scene study, and use of imagination. Specially chosen performance scenes will end the week.

About Carlo Grossman:  Carlo is a veteran actor, director, and teacher. Presently he is a drama teacher at Sandy Spring Friends School and directs the middle school play and the upper school musical production. Formerly, he was the drama teacher and director of productions at Flint Hill School. He directed 50 productions there, helping to bring the school 30 National Capital Area Cappies nominations and 5 awards. His international experience includes directing productions in Russia and Ukraine. Prior to his teaching career, Carlo was an actor with the Magic Carpet Theater of San Francisco, which had a series on Nickelodeon Television.
